Caterham is one of the most highly-regarded sportscar
manufacturers in the world. Founded in 1959 as a Lotus dealer,
Caterham Cars became custodian of Colin Chapman's unique philosophy
of 'adding lightness' when it acquired the rights to build
Chapman's iconic Seven model in 1973.
Since then, Caterham has improved and refined the Seven, whilst
sticking steadfastly to Chapman's original spirit of engineering
simplicity and placing the driving experience at the core of the
car's existence.
Caterham has a rich heritage in motorsport - the Seven was once
banned from open competition after being deemed 'too fast'. The
Caterham Academy, for complete novices, has created more than 800
brand new racing drivers since its inception in 1995 and the
Company's 'ladder' of six factory championships are home to nearly
200 drivers each year, thanks to enviably low costs and a field of
identical cars controlled by tight regulations honed over 25 years
of racing.
In 2011 the Caterham Seven is still the ultimate purist track and
road driving experience and in applying more than 50 years'
knowledge and experience invested in its primary model, Caterham
launched the Caterham SP/300.R, an all-new sports prototype racing
car for a new one-make series and the trackday community in January
this year.
With its acquisition by Tony Fernandes and his Team Lotus
Enterprise partners, Caterham Cars now has the perfect launch pad
from which to mature into a truly global business and the evolution
of the breed continues apace.
